Pool-Play matches of 2012 Women’s Beach Volleyball Tournament in Guatemala – Volleyball news
The women’s Pool-Play matches of the 2012 Guatemala Women’s Beach Volleyball Tournament were played on Friday, March 30.
The opening day of the tournament featured great beach volleyball action of NORCECA teams. A total of 11 beach volleyball duos from across the NORCECA region joined the tournament and opened the tournament on Friday.
Following eleven teams from North and Central American, and Caribbean region joined the competition on Friday, March 30.

The day was opened with Pool A, where American team of Jenny Kropp went against Nicaragua’s Elia Torres and Swan Mendoza. The match spanned over two sets and finally ended with American victory. The US pair settled for 2- 0 (21-14, 21-14) victory in the
match.
Following the loss of opening match, the pair from Nicaragua clashed with the home duo of Nadia Galán and Ana Villagrán. The home team was expected to do well in the match but raged-up Nicaraguan tandem did not allow the hosts to come up. Galán/ Villagrán
could not overcome the visiting team and acknowledged their better status after two-set game. Nicaragua earned the winning status by posting a 2-0 win. (21-15, 21-11)
Pool A of the 2012 NORCECA Women’s Beach Volleyball Tournament featured only two games on the opening day.
In Pool B, Barbados’ Anthazia Mason and Shari Matthews overpowered the team from San Cristóbal y Nevis, which consisted of Brenda Allen and Shanicia Dyer. The former pairing performed amazingly well and dominated the opponents with 2-0 (21-17, 21-15).
Second pool play match in Group B brought Guatemala’s Susana Alvarado and Anna Lourdes Ramirez in contest with ISV team. This time the Guatemalan players proved to be better and defeated the guest team in straight sets. They claimed the opening set with
21-15 on board and totally dominated the scene in the second set. The ISV pair could only score 3 points in the second set and gave an easy victory to hosts.
The ISV team received its second consecutive defeat from Brenda Allen and Shanicia Dyer of SKN in the third match of Pool B. The underdog ISV tandem failed to put up with the tricky bump passes of experienced SKN duo and ended up after scored 7 and 9 points,
respectively.
The fourth match in Pool B was played between Guatemala 1 and Barbados 2. The home side benefitted the competitive edge of playing under familiar conditions and claimed 2-0 (21-15, 21-17) victory over Barbados team.
In Pool C teams from ESA and Dominican Republic clinched success. Both teams finished the pool-play with 2-0 record.
