I am thinking about getting a pool for the backyard.

What kind of pool should I get inground or above ground ? Are waterslides or diving boards nice to have ?

Thanks for your help !

  1. Diving boards bring home owners insurance issues.

    An inground pool is nice.

they are a lot of fun if the family uses them.

otherwise the upkeep is a pain.

salt systems are worth the money.

  2. Honestly, I would reconsider....I got one and it was fun the first year.   Then when tax season came around and I actually added up the maintenance costs.....Aye Chihuahua!!!!  The water bill went up, it costs alot of money to keep clean and you really should get extra homeowners liability insurance.  And if the motor, etc. breaks.......$$$$$.  I personally decided the beach was really nice after all and so are the community pools, they really are nice to have around.  I wish I would have posted this question before I bought......But if you really want one....in ground.  Slides and boards, not really necessary, not really used much.

    Hope this helps.

  3. Depends upon how many people will use the pool. We have a large above ground pool with a deck. If you get an in-ground pool, slides and diving boards are fun to have! Everybody enjoys those.

  4. Above ground, $2500.00 to $5000.00. In ground $25,000 to $50,000. Depends on your wallet!

  5. Fiberglass in ground pools are less maintenance then gunite plaster pools. If you get the gunite pool they can add black  to the plaster. A black bottom pool looks more natural. Mine had red sandstone around it with banana trees hanging over one edge. Sweeping the pool and adjusting chemicals was a daily act of love.

  6. I think inground is better because will be nice view, one level with floor, invinity and one look water level with deck.

  7. What's your budget?  Inground pools can cost $20-$50K plus and take a long time to put in.  Above ground pools can be set up in a day and cost much less.

  8. diving boards are illegal now insurance companys wont cover you with one at your house they might drop you

  9. Pool are a lot of maintenance....and you usually don't get your money back when and if you sell your home. Buy a season pass to your local water parks. You can get the whole family a pass for 20 yrs before you pay for an in-ground pool and the upkeep on it....plus the water park has more rides and slides and pools.

  10. in ground and water slides
