Question:

Pool Skimmer/Jet Question?

Ok, so i have a large above ground pool, oval shaped, came with the house when I bought it. I have replaced pump, filter (sand), all hoses, skimmer, etc, pool is in good shape.

Here is my question I seem to be getting a lot of debris on top of the pool water, the skimmer should be getting most of this correct?

I think the problem may be with the direction of my jet......

Like I said the pool is oval shaped, the skimmer and jet are on the left hand side of the pool. The jet is about 2 feet to the right of the skimmer. I currently have the jet pointed to the right as I am trying to circulate the water to the other end of the pool and back to the skimmer. I don't think the water is making it from the jet all the way to the other end of the pool to circulate anything back to the skimmer though....BTW the jet has a lot of pressure, that is not the problem.

Is this correct, is there something I am doing wrong?

  1. you are correct - you have it pointed the right way, and if you have good pressure you should be OK.  IS the door on the skimmer stuck shut maybe?  Do you have alot of mature trees nearby?  You may be generated debris faster than you can clear it.

  2. Sounds like you are doing everything right. If you are running the filter at 50/50 skimmer/main drain try shutting off the drain and running 100% skimmer. Also..there is a company called intheswim.com and they used to have these plastic "arms" you put on the skimmers to help them get more junk..they worked great until the kids broke them.

  3. do you have a skimmer weir?..is it waterlogged and not floating to get the very top of water?...also,is the jet pointed along side the wall as much as possible to get circular action going?
