Why do people that play pool roll the pool stick on the felt before they choose one?

I see it at the bar all the time but don't know why.

  1. If I play with a house stick the first thing I look for is a good tip. I can live with a little warpage, but you have to have a decent tip.

  2. to see how straight it is,if it is bent it will wobble letting you see light between the stick and table

  3. to see if it is warped or not

  4. to make sure the stick is straight

  5. To make sure that the cue is straight. House cues are can be warped.

  6. as people say to see if the cue is warped. It is not a very good method though, as it assumes the table is flat and even, and if they don't look after their cues...

It is just as easy and more reliable to look along the shaft, you just don't look as cool when you do this.

  7. They roll the cue to determine if it's warped.

  8. Besides the obvious, it looks intimidating. Some just do it to give the illusion of an experienced player.

If you are a good player you could be playing with a yard stick and still beat all the people in a pool hall!

  9. I think most of them do it because they seen someone else do it

I was playing a guy the other day He had close to frozen balls on the rail so he holds his hand over them then almost looked under his hand at them I ask him what he was doing ,He said thats how they do it on TV,I ask do What, then he said I Dont Know

But like was said just sight the stick if you cant see a warp you dont need to be playing with those eyes anyway

  10. to check if its warped, a waste of time though....just look down the shaft like your shooting a rifle
