Hi the pool cover in my bakc yard is full of leaves and dirt. We don't know how to get them all out, or what to do with it once it is off the cover. Pool hadn't been opened for a couple of years so the leaves are very decomposed and smell pretty bad.

Been using a pump to get the water out, but its a big 40' x 20' inground pool.

We need to do something fast before we have a major mosquito problem!!

  1. rake them off and put them in lawn bags!! Wear rubber gloves while doing so..

  2. Just take the whole cover off, fold it up, and throw it away. If the leaves have decomposed on it, then it probley isnt good anymore. If you dont want to do this though, try a shop-vac to get them off but I would throw it away. You can buy them for a decent price on ebay.com.

  3. Use the garden hose or a pressure washer.  (You could have a real threat of West Nile.)  Hose it off with a pressure washer and then sprinkle on some vinegar and baking soda.  Let that set and rinse that off.  That should take care of it.

  4. You'll just about have to remove the cover. The leaves and other debris will need to be either bagged up and taken to a landfill, or destroyed (perhaps dry them out somehow, and burn them) The cover itself will probably need to be cleaned as well. I suggest using perhaps bleach or a similar cleaner and warm water to clean it.

As far as cleaning the pool itself... drain it, fill it, add your chemicals, and maintain a consistent routine for cleaning it.

  5. shop vac

  6. Take the cover off let is dry out and burn it. Then like you said pump the water of the pool get in there and clean it REALLY good. Then fill it back up and add your chimicals!!!
