Pool draw announced for the Rugby Seven at Commonwealth games
Rugby seven, also known as seven-a-Side, is one of the most famous and interesting Rugby games. Unlike normal Rugby games, Rugby seven matches have seven player on each side, and the games last for around 15 minutes, with each half divided into only seven minutes.
The Less number of the player on each side during the match, and the short span of time, makes the game more enthusiastic and energetic. Hence, the audience or spectators enjoy the game with frolic.
Commonwealth Games Federation and the IRB (International Rugby Board), after their mutual consultation and consensus, decided to include rugby seven tournaments into the upcoming commonwealth games, which are going to take place in Delhi India this summer. Although the commonwealth games are going to start from 4th October and last till 14 October, the Rugby Seven games are scheduled to be held between 11th and 12th October.
The top ranking teams of the world are going to take part in the games, i.e. New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, Scotland etc. Commonwealth games were held in 1998 in Kuala Lumpur, 2002 in Manchester and 2006 in Melbourne Australia. New Zealand has won gold medals during all of the above stated tournaments.
Commonwealth games Federation and IRB have recently announced pools draw for Rugby seven in commonwealth games, which is going to start from 11th and last till the 12th of October 2010 in Delhi India.
New Zealand, the all time champion of Rugby and Rugby seven is going to head the Pool-A, where they have to face Canada and Scotland. South Africa, another top ranking team of the world and Tri-Nations, will be heading Pool-B. South Africans have got silver medal during 2002 Rugby seven tournaments. While, soma, another IRB champion top Pool-C, where they have to face ever-dangerous Kenya and also New Guinea and Uganda.
Similarly, Pool-D is going to be headed by England, a very famous and champion team of the IRB. Their recent successes during preparations for the upcoming Rugby world Cup, is worth appreciating. And they have to face mouth-watering tie against Australia. Australia is considered to be a superpower of IRB, which occupy second position on its world ranking list after New Zealand.
Commonwealth games play a great role for the promotion of the Rugby around the world. This event features teams from Asia, Africa, Oceania, North America and Caribbean. And the tournaments deliver exciting matches and attract famous player from around the world.
According to Mike Hooper, the Chief Executive of Commonwealth, “Rugby seven has become one of the most sought. He also added that, “commonwealth game is an excellent spectacle for its viewers. The inclusion of Rugby seven’s stars and best teams from every corner of the world is helping broaden the scope of the game around the world to great extend.”
So, the discussion can be boiled down by stating that, commonwealth games which are scheduled to be held in Delhi this summer will provide an excellent spectacle for the viewers of the Rugby around the world. The Same kinds of tournament were held in 1998, 2002, and 2006, and New Zealand had emerged triumphant during all these tournaments.
This time the Rugby seven is going to be played in a multi-game environment, i.e. in commonwealth games. IRB and the Commonwealth Federation had previously announced the inclusion of Rugby seven into Commonwealth games, where the most famous teams of the world are going to participate. They have also announced pool draw recently, where New Zealand, South Africa, England and Soma are going to head Pool-A, Pool-B, Pool-C and Pool-D respectively. Being the champion of the Rugby seven, New Zealand is considered to be still having the capacity to maintain that dominance in the upcoming Rugby Seven tournament, which is going to be held in Delhi on 11th to 12th of the October tournament. Commonwealth has been playing a great role for the development of the game, and is there considered to be an excellent platform for Rugby Seven.
