Question:

Pool filter with very high pressure at Spring opening?

We replaced the sand in our Hayward filter (150 lbs), filled up the pool, got everything hooked up the same way as last year and the pressure gauge arrow shot to the last number on the dial (60). From what I remember, the pressure last year was steady at 20. Any ideas?

  1. Bad pressure gauge  ..time for a change.....

  2. Sounds like you may have some sort of blockage along the lines.

  3. I have to agree with one answer that the gauge is likely faulty.

The obvious answer otherwise is that pressure increase as the filtering system loads with debris. In your case that isn't the case. I do ask however, is 150 lbs. the recommendation?

Another obvious point, in even a clean filtering system, would be low pressure might be less the fault of the system, and more the fault of the pump.

A pool filter pressure gauge is a relatively inexpensive piece of hardware. Do you have a release k**b adjacent to the gauge, to expell trapped air?

  4. maybe there is a return valve that is closed
