  1. it always has to be level and if your going to have it set up indefinetelly you want to excavate then back fill it with sand to help it stay level

a uneven bottom makes it harder to keep clean

  2. It doesn't have to be level until you're ready to put it up. In other words, if the area you plan to put it on isn't level now, you'll need to level it before anything else. It's usually in your own best interest to excavate ( for the actual rough site), rather than add fill to get the area level unless the grade of the land is exceptionally steep. Backfill and building a retaining wall usually is more expensive and labour intensive than just digging into a slight incline, to get the area level. When going the excavation route, always leave at least a foot of space between the pool wall and where the backyard starts to rise uphill of it. You don't want that pool wall even slightly under dirt. It'll corrode.

The best way for you to determine how level the actual area is and identify high and low spots when doing the fine tuning for level, is to use what's called a transit. You can rent one of these for a day, from a tool rental, fairly cheaply. If possible, find a shop with a laser transit, rather than the old optical ones. It lets you do the job single handed ( doesn't require two people) and is a little more accurate. They're also a snap to operate.

Whatever the grade is, when you put that liner down, is going to be what you're stuck with and you'd be surprised how minor imperfections in your bottom are magnified when the pool is full, so try to get it as close to level everywhere, both where the bottom rails for the wall go down as well as the rest of the pool bottom. If your wall is out of level, it's a helluva an eyesore and also can lead to structural failure down the road.

  3. It has to be TOTALLY  level or you're going to run into big problems.

You must live somewhere hot to be thinking about swimming pools!   I envy you!

  4. yes so the water will be level because if it ain't level part of it will be half hi with water then 1 part will be really low

  5. yes. your backyard definitly has to be level. no little slopes or hills, because it is possible for the water to spill out if the pool is not level.
