  1. videos and instructors WILL be helpful,

HOWEVER, when it comes to improving your game, there is only one way to do it. Practice as often as possible. When I was 18 years old I randomly met a girl that was my age, but AWESOME at playing pool. I played her and felt as though I was a complete fool, cause I totally lost. But that motivated me and I decided I was learn. I went at least 2 or 3 times a week and practiced about 2 hours while I was there. I did this for about 4 to 6 months until finally I realized I had really learned how to shoot some pool!! At that point, the friends I had made in the pool halls (mostly older men who had been playing for years) hooked me up with the trick shots and whatnot.

    GOOD LUCK  :)

  2. for the best info, and really nice trick shots, go to your local billiards store and there, you'll find instructional videos...not that i've used them myself, but a good friend of mine bought a few, practiced like crazy on his table, went out a few months later and slaughtered ppl on the tables...he's now one of the best in the state :)...good luck

  3. It'll cost you a bit, but Bert Kinister tapes are great (link below).  He shows you tons of drills and strategies.  You may be able to find them cheaper at another website, or you might be able to borrow some from someone at your local pool room (hope you have some friends there :) ).  Also, I've provided a link for you to find an instructor in your area, plus Tim's website that Johnny was talking about.

    Good luck.

I'd like to add a little bit in response to the answerer below.  Practice is of course necessary, but what you practice is the key.  Bert Kinister's drills are excellent to practice, and of course you can practice five hours a day every day for 6 months and go nowhere because you are practicing mistakes, i.e. you just keep doing the same things wrong.  Like my flute teacher used to say, "Practice doesn't make perfect; perfect practice makes perfect."  I'm not exactly sure what perfect practice is in regards to pool, but I'm sure an instructor would be able to tell you.

  4. A good start would be a BCA instructor in your area. Advice is free and you get what you pay for usually.

trick shots are fun but learn to walk before you try to run then practice running before you try to race-But ck out TIM the dragon or Yows sites hope Tim answers This I dont rem his url

Just have fun it will come togeather soon enough

                                               Later Johnny

  5. I just have to say, Lea has some of the best answers (and questions) that I've had the pleasure to read.  She took the words out of my mouth regarding practice.  As usual, she provides great links and an informed opinion.  My vote for best answer here.  M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.
