  1. As much as we might want it, we wil have to be satisfied with what hey give us!.

They may have many channels in Japan, and dedicaed one to pool!.

When people here, are used to seeing Extreme sports, where you go nuts watching some of the things that they do..

Pool can hardly compete, as far as ratings, with today's sports!. Let's not ask too much!.

Most of the things you mentioned have higher ratinds than Pool. Sorry, but it is a fact, as much as we might want otherwise.

  2. Because there is no money in it.

    Sponsors couldn't give a rats ***.

In Australia we have quite a lot on Foxtel (pay tv).

America must have something like that. (pay tv).

    You invented 9 Ball.

However its not a great spectator sport. Unless you at the pub with a beer in your hand.

The j**s have everything, they'd watch the sushi rolling championships if they could.

    Maybe they do! Not sure.

    :-D

  3. Pool is very popular on a grass roots level.  Amateur participation is what keeps the sport alive.  Pool at the professional level isn't considered mainstream.  I'll never, ever understand how poker is considered mainstream, especially on "sports" networks, but I digress.  The opportunity for sponsorship and cash winnings is very limited for pro pool players.  Only the very best players can make a living playing pool without a second job.  This is why there is an entire golf network.  Golfers tend to spend a lot more on their equipment (clubs, memberships, etc.).  Pro golfers make insane amounts of money on the pro tour.  Check out the archives.  I know that similar questions have been asked before.  I don't recall what conclusions we came up with, but ultimately it's true that you're going to have to search high and low to find any coverage.  It's all about ratings, and unfortunately too many amateur pool players have little interest in watching the game being played by professionals.  A lot of players are just content to be the house champ at their neighborhood bar and have little concern about the larger world of pool.   We all have our reasons for loving the game, and unfortunately as the song goes, "sometimes love just ain't enough".  Think of it this way, do you really want pool to become a mainstream televised sport?  Think of the media circus that would lower the game.  Look at all of the scandals in more "popular" sports like basketball and football.  I really don't want to hear about Johnny Archer robbing a liquor store or Efren Reyes organizing dog fights.  Of course, these are absurd examples, but the game doesn't need that kind of attention.  Today, professional pool is a shining example of skilled competitors that are also excellent role models.  Everytime I happen to accidentally come across poker on TV, I see a bunch of anti-social, confrontational, whiny, little cry-babies.  Now does that mean that the majority of poker players are jerks?  Probably not, but that's what sells in the media.  I don't want good players to have their names and reputations dragged through the mud.  M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.

P.S.  I just got done watching pool for 2 hours straight on ESPN2 and there's another match coming up in 90 minutes, I think.  See, there's hope.

  4. Last time this came up still goes -MONEY- we just dont generate enough

If we played million dollar tourns we would have to fight the media off

that is pokers only draw for TV  What can be more boring that a bunch of tur-s sitting around the table looking stupid

go to a casino and watch the tables let some idiot bet $25K and everybody in the place wants to watch

Ever see bunch around a dime slot machine???

    Simply money involved

I actualy called a PBS station and that was more or less what they told me -This came up a while back and I looked into it

About poker players heres the (d) if you want to put it in
