  1. To be great at ether game requires tremendous talent. It's simply not possible to say that one game requires more talent than the other.

  2. They're very very different.

I started in pool and got good enough (here in the UK) to captain the winning team for the South West pub league.

I then started to play Snooker a lot more, and still do to this day, though not competitively.

In my opinion, Snooker requires more planning, a much longer period of concentration and much more technical ability. Pool is more aggressive, more "creative" for want of a better word, and is more immediately gratifying and exciting to both watch and play.

    I love them both.

  3. From an amatuer standpoint, I can tell you I've played pool with more than a few people who called themselves primarily snooker players, and not a one of them was anything special. I even had a guy on my APA 8 ball team for awhile that often proudly declared that he,"grew up on a snooker table." For any of you familiar with APA ratings, he was an SL5 (7 is the highest). That is the average rating of male players in the APA, nothing special at all. The shotmaking was there most of the time (obviously) for the people I played but almost all of them were pretty lost in all other aspects of the game. Safety play, cue ball control, and general playing strategy were simply lacking for whatever reason.

From a professional standpoint, if snooker were so much more difficult, you'd see snooker players dominating the professional pool circuit, which simply does not happen. (Yes, there are a couple female snooker players who dominate the women's tournaments, but that's hardly a solid justification. It would be like saying someone was one of the best baseball players in the world because he batted .400 in AAA baseball and .200 in the majors).

Bottom line, it's pretty much a wash as far as skill goes IMO, and in my experience, people who say it's snooker haven't put much time in at the pool tables with decent pool players. Both are fun games though, and I don't see why so many people feel the need to rile up the masses with "which is better" qestions like this (this question pops up on here all the time).

  4. Diffrent as Scoccer and Am. Football

    Not the same at all

Indianjo who is the dancing chicken ?

  5. Point taken, Johnny!

    SNOOKER!

Snooker is about a straight stroke and precision. You cannot 'cheat the pocket' in Snooker, nor can you "use the pocket" in Snooker. There is no margin for error. Every 'potted' shot must hit nothing but pocket, in Snooker.

Snooker is a great game to play to hone a straight stroke, good aim, repetition, and cue ball control. I DO enjoy seeing a perfect game of Snooker. I also become bored quickly, if I  watch more than two games in one siting. ---- *Yawn* ---

To see a great example and witness some perfect execution in Snooker, I've provided a link for all  you Snooker enthusiasts.

    Enjoy!

The two games are similar in that they require precision, a good stroke, and great cue ball control and repetition. Snooker is by no means a walk in the park. While Pool is quite 'mental', Snooker is hypnotically 'mental'.

    POOL!  (Okay ----Everybody, WAKE UP!!!)

Pool allows for finesse and requires a lot of it. Pool is much more exciting to play and watch --at least for me it is. I love to see a great 'throw' shot, 'time'shot, carom, bank, massé, safety, etc. This is why 9 ball is televised -- it's fast, exciting, and brings out all the tricks of the trade.

I could watch Tim's 'time shot' (trick shot) over and over ----but watching 2 games of Snooker, is plenty for me.  *z-z-z-z*  I'd much rather be playing than watching. I still enjoy watching a good match-up between the world's best.

While both games require a great deal of talent, Pool requires a different set of skills and a big arsenal of tricks.

Okay, Johnny .......I'll shut up and eat my checkers !!?

  6. I think I will wait to comment

Not about the player its about the games  and they dont compare I just saw what Euro sports calls the greatest snooker shot ever " A jump shot !!!" And from the look on the guys face it was an accident and no I dont think Reyes 2 cushion kick shot is the greatest shot in pool either,But

    Back to checkers & Chess

  7. Snooker is the more difficult game.

John: Jump shots are illegal in snooker, so the comentator obviously doesn't know his stuff.

yeah that was a miscue  from big Bill Werbernick. One of the luckiest shots maybe, as to it being a foul I think it is but with the ball bouncing first before clearing the first red I am not sure, I would have to check the rules.
