  1. Shape your tip to a nickel or dime shape using a rough sandpaper. It is very hard to play with a flat tip as no chalk will stick to it and you will not be able to apply spin to the cue ball with a flat tip.

  2. Shape or replace it that is about as good as a square wheel on a race car

What kind of stick would have a flat tip most are at least pre shaped

  3. I don't quite understand your description. The tip should be hemispherical at the top, shaped with a radius of a nickel or dime depending on your personal preference. You can see a good tip with the link below. A tip shaper will do the job, as others have said. Still don't know what you mean by "raised" though. If the tip is separating from the ferrule (the white section between the shaft and the tip), you should get a new tip put on.

  4. If your cue stick is brand new, and the tip provided with your cue is flat (no matter how thick it is) you may want to replace it with a better tip, if the one you have is not leather ----leather is best. You want a rounded tip ---not flat ----with the radius of a nickel or dime. You'll also want to 'rough it up' so that it can hold chalk well. If the tip is shiny, it will repel  --- or not hold chalk. You can purchase a shaping tool for your tip to rough it up AND give it the proper roundness. It's quite standard that your tip have the 'roundness' of a nickel. Look for a shaping tool that provides a measuring 'cut', that you can simply place over the tip of your cue (as shown in the link provided below).  If you see a gap between the tool and the tip, you'll need to 'work' your tip a bit more.

With a Willard's tip-shaping tool, you can never over-shape your cue tip. I've been using this tool for decades. It works great. Here's a direct link to Willard's, with a photo and a description of this very effective and convenient tool.

  5. If you are a moderate player.. it is fine dont worry about it.

If you want to get serious about your game, shape it...

You can buy a cheap little device at any pool hall called a shaper. It is normally gold colored. On one side it is a really rough crystal type sanding material imbedded in it to form the shape of a perfect tip to fit. On the other side it is a lighter sanding surface to smooth it a little.  "I believe it is called the cube"

Persaonlly I like the english I can put on a ball with the rougher surface...
