Pool winners on Day 3 - 2011 FIVB Junior World Championship
The 2011 FIVB Women’s Junior World Championship is underway in Peru as the competition was kicked off last Friday, July 22 with sixteen international women’s Under-20 teams. Playing under the classification of four pools, teams successfully completed three
days of the preliminary robin round on Sunday. At the end of the third day, following four teams obtained the most number of points in their respective pool:
Pool A – Peru – 9 points (without any loss) Pool B – Brazil- 9 points (without any loss) Pool C – United States – 9 points (without any loss) Pool D – China – 9 points (without any loss)
These four teams including the host Peru are the pool toppers so far. Each team of the tournament appeared in the three matches in three days and showed their thirst for better status. Peru, Brazil, United States, and China have been quite successful in
their matches and clinched absolute success.
Team Peru is grouped along with Egypt, Tunisia, and Slovakia in Pool A. The hosts kicked off the campaign in great way and defeated Egyptian team in the opening match. Peruvian girls totally benefitted the home advantage and heavily influenced the visiting
team. They finished the match in three sets and bagged their first win of the tournament.
In the second match, Peru was challenged by Tunisia, the team which had already been defeated by Slovakia in the previous match. Hence, it was an easy task for Peru to launch authority over them. Home side dominated in the match and didn’t allow Tunisian
team to raise any eyebrow. Tunisia accepted defeat in straight sets, while Peruvian team celebrated victory.
Third match was another find display of volleyball by Peru against Slovakia. It was comparatively tough match as Slovakia was equipped with strong team-line. However, a close fight was staged which eventually ended in hosts’ favour. Peru won the match by
3-0 on the board. Success in three matches awarded 9 points to Team Peru and put them in the top slot.
Quite similarly, 6-time gold-medallist Brazilian Team proved to be the best team in Pool B. They appeared in the three matches, where they met team from Italy, Serbia, and Cuba. Runner-up of the previous edition of FIVB Women’s Junior World Championship,
Brazil marked first win over Italy at the loss of one set. They did the same while playing against Serbia in the next match. Brazil posted an amazing straight-set win over Caribbean team from Cuba in third match and completed 9 points.
On other hand, U.S. Team worked out the status of top-team in Pool C. They pulled off success consecutive three matches and bagged 9 points. Teams from Poland, South Korea, and Belgium came to hinder the performance of American team but no-one could hold
them off from going to top. U.S. Team performed convincingly well and kept one step ahead of competitors.
China emerged as top team in Pool D after three days’ of gruelling battle. Defending champions Dominican Republic, Russia, and Japan are playing in the same pool and the Chinese team sparked and even surpassed the defending champions. Dominican Republic
is one step down on the ranking chart then China at the end of the third day.
