Pools for 2011 FIVB Girls’ Youth World Championship in Turkey finalised – Volleyball news
The Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) in collaboration with the Turkish Volleyball Federation (TVF) conducted an event for the random selection of teams that would play in the four pools of the 2011 FIVB Youth World Championship on Tuesday, May
31. The teams were allotted places in their respective pools and the fixtures of the championship were finalised during the meeting.
The drawing of lots was held at the famous Volleyball Hotel Ankara. Mr Hartmut Giebels from Germany was specially called in to conduct the ceremony. The senior officials of TVF including the President, Erol Ünal Karabiyik, were also present at the event.
The official spots for the teams are in the following order:
Pool A – Turkey, Egypt, Algeria, and Poland
Pool B – Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, and Slovakia
Pool C – USA, China, Puerto Rico, and Serbia
Pool D – Italy, Germany, Japan, and Thailand
This year’s edition of FIVB Girls’ Youth World Championship is scheduled to be held in Ankara, Turkey. The thrilling campaign of girls Under-20 volleyball will run from August 12 to 21. This is the second time that Turkey has got the chance to host this
international event. A total of sixteen teams from Africa, Asia, Europe, NORCECA and South American have qualified for the tournament.
The President of Turkish Volleyball Federation, Mr Erol Ünal Karabiyik, expressed delight that Turkey will serve as the host of the prestigious girls’ volleyball campaign. He shared his thoughts and said, “The Turkish Volleyball Federation is once again
proud to be the host country of the special event of FIVB. We will make sure that all participating countries feel like at home and return their countries with good memories.”
For being the host of the tournament, Turkey didn’t have to go through the qualification phase but all other members competed at several qualification tournaments. Algeria and Egypt reserved berths in the 2011 FIVB Girls’ Youth World Championship from Africa.
Asian Volleyball Federation (AVC) promoted China, Japan and Thailand into the Youth World Championship. Likewise, Poland, Germany, Serbia, Italy filled in the five slots reserved for the European teams. Puerto Rico, Mexico and USA pulled off success at the
2010 Youth NOCECA Championship, which allowed them jumped on the board. Likewise, Argentina and Brazil qualified for the competition via 2010 Youth South American Championship.
