Pools sand filter loses 80% of its suction after 10-20 minutes ..?

after unplugging it and a restart it will once again work well for 20 minutes till it loses most of its flow..

any idea what would cause this?

Sounds like a restriction. Have you changed the filter material lately? Have you tried to "snake" out the line from the pool to the pump? Have you taken any lines apart to see if they are partially plugged?

perhaps an air leak is causing air to build up in filter?
