Poon Lok, Tse Ying overpower Liu Ying, Yin Loo in first round – Singapore Open Update
Hong Kong’s Poon Lok Yan-Tse Ying Suet had a dream start in Li Ning Singapore Open as they toppled Women’s Doubles team Liu Ying Goh-Yin Loo Lim in first round match on June 20, 2012.
They earned the right to be in the pre quarter-finals by registering 15-21, 21-10 and 21-17 in a 47-minute fight at Singapore Indoor Stadium.
However, they are subjected to tough trial in next round as their challengers will be either Vivian Kah Mun Hoo-Khe Wei Woon or the World Number 12 duo Shinta Mulia Sari-Lei Yao.
In opening match of the event, Poon Lok-Tse Ying went down in first segment of the show but still they locked the honour by forging fruitful partnership in last two sets.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian campaigners frittered away a golden chance of glory and crashed out in shameful manner.
Women’s Doubles experts Liu Ying and Yin Loo did extremely well in first set as they bagged valuable match point with notable difference in concluding margin of 21-15.
First half got started with their immediate lead but they lost focus after couple of rallies which allowed the opposing team to narrow the gap until 11-10 score before interval.
After the interval, Liu Ying and Yin Loo accelerated their pace and reinstated their dominance with few consecutive points which took them to decisive figure of 21-15.
The crowd was expecting a stunner from them in following game but they turned sitting ducks in second set and the opposing team hunted them down with great ease.
World Number 17 duo Poon Lok-Tse Ying dominated in every area of court and ended this crucial set with a favourable margin.
They brought their competitors down by piling up a mountainous total of 11-3 and then buried them with 11-point advantage in final figure of 21-10.
Now both contenders were standing at same level as they were one step away either from pre quarter-final round entry or from an early exit.
The team from Hong Kong dominated from very shot and enjoyed an upper hand until last one. Though, their opponents created problems in the middle but it was not enough to stop them from registering a winning total of 21-17.
