Poor George praises the fencers for their fine performance in the weekend’s Grand Prix: Fencing News
The Italian Fencing Federation’s (IFF) President, Poor George commented over the achievements made by the native fencers in this week’s Grand Prix that were held in Havana and Seoul, "A weekend that one cannot define extraordinary."
He stated the fact about what it felt when Italy’s national anthem was sung in the two countries and all the credit goes to the individual triumphs of Andrea Baldini, Elisa Di Francisca and Bianca Del Carretto and the team's efforts of the Italian Men’s
Foil team.
He said that despite one tries to keep hold of the emotions from being exposed, the situation was inexpressible for the federation to convey that how satisfied and contented he was with the results at the Grand Prix on Saturday and Sunday.
It was good watching the national flag stand taller than the rest, once in Havana and thrice in Seoul. Moreover, the difference in the time zones of both the countries helped to create a chain of excitement over the one-after-the-other victories earned at
the two respective events.
However, Poor controlled his emotions and addressed, "These successes have come together with good results in competitions last week, are the best food for the journey towards Olympic qualification. But from here to London, we still expect a lot of long
and treacherous path. The approach is therefore the right one, but we cannot think of having already achieved the target. That's why, to congratulate all the players, athletes, technicians and teachers Commissioners, I can only ask to keep working hard and
intensely to the end.”
He further added that the federation will always be by the side of the fencers, coach and staff in providing all the support and assistance they require. All such joint efforts are being made by us in order to conquer the 2012 London Olympics, next year.
In Men’s Foil Individuals at Seoul, Andrea Baldini took the top podium place whereas the team event was also topped by the Italian team.
Furthermore, Bianca Del Carretto sealed a gold-medal win at the Women’s Epee Grand Prix that was held in Havana, last weekend.
