Located right on the Equator, the African country has the worse poverty stats in the region, superseded only by the likes of Ethiopia and Somalia. The country is the major hub of Tourism in the world.
The secret to the success and commendable humanitarian work lies with the efforts and dedication of Victoria Ferguson who has been the main impetus behind the establishment and efforts of the foundation.
She said, “All of our work throughout the year comes down to this. We’re all so proud of Julius and Janet and watching the turnaround in their lives has been incredible. This is the reason we do what we do”.
Julius and Janet are two of the rehabilitated Kenyan youth who successfully caddied for Chris Lloyd in the Barclays Kenya Open Pro-Am.
Dr Ferguson, chairman of the Glad’s House project, also spoke on the occasion and lauded the support of the European and Challenge Tour players for accepting caddies who cannot be any more beneficial than simply carrying the bags of the players.
He said, “The ongoing support of The European Tour through the Tour Players Foundation is simply fantastic. Their support has ensured that our caddie programme is an ongoing success, with caddies now based at both Vipingo Ridge Golf Club and Nyali Golf Club”.
Dr. Ferguson revealed that the funds generated by the event will be used in providing better accommodation to the current contingent of caddies and will be used to fund training programs for them.
Tour Players’ Foundation, chairman Mark Roe, was also present on the occasion and hoped that the Tour Player’s Foundation’s support will help the juvenile foundation achieve more accolades in its tenure and will continue to benefit the poverty-stricken people
of the African country.
The Sky Ports will be telecasting a documentary on Chris Lloyd’s visit to the Mombasa centre of the Glad’s House Foundation which will further provide much-needed outreach to the foundation to the rest of the world.
Barclays Kenya Open concluded with Seve Benson of England landing the title on the first playoff. He defeated the raging Dane Lasse Jensen birdying the playoff.
