Question:

Poor digital signal?

Recently started having problems with poor signal quality mostly on itv and channel 4. I have a humax pvr-9200t and had a new ariel put in a couple of years ago. The signal starts to crack up until it is unwatchable - all the other channels are fine. Is it the poor weather or could it be something else?

  1. For the last week I have had the same problem, I put it down the weather plus I have it on all the channels, well I hope it the weather or it will be a new TV

  2. It's got to be related to the broadcaster. So yo need to call them and let them know about this. Other than that, try these steps from Humax troubleshooting web-page:

    There are three possible causes:

    (1) The signal coming into your HFA100 is fading, or is affected by strong multipath (echoes). This can cause the signal to drop out as the digital video and audio streams are interrupted. Try re-positioning your antenna to see if the problem goes away.

    (2) The antenna you are using does not have enough gain at the frequency of the TV channel you want to receive. For example, you may be trying to watch a UHF digital channel with a VHF-only TV antenna, or vice-versa. Always choose an antenna that covers all of the TV channels you wish to receive. Note that not all VHF/UHF 'combo' TV antennas work equally well – some are better than others.

    (3) The broadcaster has a problem with encoding the digital signal. As a result, excess jitter is introduced to the data stream. If you have a strong DTV signal from this station and are experiencing no problems with other local DTV broadcasts, you may want to call the station in question and ask that they check to see if they are having encoder problems.

  3. I have just bought a new television,  the first week I had the same problem as you,   I got on to the firm and they told me that I need a booster, which I got for £15.00 no problem since.

  4. Did you solve your problem as I have the same problem as you. ITV and Channel 4 is poor quite a lot recently. I'm right near Crystal Palace antennae but there's a big building between me and it so I thought this and the winds were the problem, but it's getting ridiculous.

  5. It could be the poor weather but I would try a booster. It may also be worth trying to unplug the aerial and do a scan you obviously won't get any channels then switch your pvr off for about 10 minutes plug aerial back in switch back on and re scan.
