picture quality from my dvd connected to my lcd tv is poor. The background appears wavy and the image appears distorted. I wouldn't say it it looks pixeled but that is the best way I can describe it. My dvd player is connected to the tv via video input (yellow). Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

  1. the dvd is hooked up through an sd connection. so there for the picture is going to be distorted

  2. Assuming that you have a good cable, there are different qualities of picture that you will get depending on what cable/connector you use.  The rule of thumb is that the more the signals are isolated from one another to eliminate degradation through interference, the better the picture is.  The following formats are provided below, from best to worse.

    1.  The best is known as "Component", which uses a red, blue, and green cables.  The video signal is split into three signals, two color and one black and white, giving you the best picture.

    2.  Next is S-Video, where the video signal is split into two signals, giving you an even better quality picture.

    3.  Then comes composite ("the yellow plug"), where the video signal is carried through a single "pin".

    4.  The worst is basic  coax cable, also known as Radio Frequency (RF) - The video and audio signals are both carried in one cable.

If your picture is bad, you should either try a new cable or try a better format, assuming that both your DVD and TV support them.
