  5. i would say to cook pasta it is a cheap but tasty meal

  6. mac and cheese

    soup

    salad

    grilled cheese

  7. tuna casserole! i made it for dinner tonight & it is so easy, cheap, & delicious! this will feed at least 4 people, i usually double it for my family.

cook 8 oz pasta (i like shells, rotini, or bowties) according to package directions.

in a bowl, mix together 1 can tuna, 1 can cream of mushroom soup, & about 1 cup cheese; add noodles & mix together.

put into casserole dish, top with a little more cheese if desired, & sprinkle bread crumbs (or crushed ritz crackers or even potato chips) over the top.

bake at 350 for about 30-40 minutes.

    yum! :-D

  8. Get a box of either Zatarains black beans and rice or dirty rice mix.  (If you get the dirty rice, get about 1/2 pound of cheap burger).  Make either, put it in a tortilla with shredded cheddar, and have a little salsa and sour cream with it if you want.

  9. Ramen noodles, they're like 11 cents a package I think and fill me up, and I can eat a full-pound burger. For more flavor, pour some of the water out after cooking and before adding the flavor. I prefer chicken flavor.

  10. Cous Cous  is a very popular peasants food. its cheap, tasty and verrry filling. All you have to do is mix equal parts of boiling water and cous cous in a bowl, cover with glad wrap and leave to stand for about 5 minutes. Then take the plastic off, mix in some olive oil and plenty of butter and you have one tasty, delicious meal. try it and see.

  11. Well, others have pointed out the value of keeping rice, pasta, beans etc. around. (Polenta and couscous are particularly helpful; ramen is rather overrated, but if you know what you're doing it can be good.) Lots of vegetables. Pork shoulder can be pretty cheap if you can buy a lot of it at once; you can either roast or BBQ it and have a bunch of it sitting around for whatever purpose. Chicken thighs and beef short ribs are also decently cheap.

If you can swing it, grab a copy of Mark Bittman's How To Cook Everything Vegetarian -- it's pretty comprehensive, and anyone who might be facing poverty ought to learn some vegetarian cooking to save from having to eat Crème de Sept-Onze on a regular basis. A cheap crockpot would be good too.

  12. http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Grilled-Pea...

Grilled Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich

  13. 1. cook pasta and 2 tbsp butter, salt and pepper-- if you have some more money to spend, get shredded chedder cheese to melt over the pasta

    2. cook white rice- 1cup rice, 1 1/2 cups water, cook for 20 minutes, leave it then for 10 minutes, and then fluff the rice with 1/2 cup butter,

    3. saute spam luncheon meat and serve with ketchup

once you can afford regular meal try:

Southwest Chicken Chili. -- really easy

    2 chicken b*****s

    1 can Mexican corn

    4 cans chili beans

    1 can tomato sauce

    2 packets of chili seasoning

Bake chicken b*****s in oven at 350 degrees for 1 hour.

30 minutes into the baking, place beans, corn and chili mix into saucepan.

Simmer on low for remaining 30 minutes.

When chicken is done (juices run clear), place in seperate bowl and shred.

    Add chicken to saucepan ingredients.

Continue simmering on low for 10 minutes.

    Serve with crackers or rice

    Creamy Alfredo Sauce

    1- 8 ounces Cream Cheese

    3/4 Cup Fresh Grated Parmesean

    1/2 Cup Butter

    1/2 Cup Milk

Heat in a saucepan until smooth. Serve over your favorite pasta or use as a dipping sauce for toasted french bread. I've successfully substituted half-and-half or skim milk for the milk. And sometimes I add a little olive oil in place of some of the butter. This is so thick and creamy.

    Ground Beef pie::

    1 pound ground beef

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    1/4 teaspoon pepper

    1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

    2 eggs, beaten

    1 1/2 cups milk

    3/4 cup biscuit baking mix

In a skillet, cook beef over medium heat until no longer pink; drain. Press into an ungreased 9-in. pie plate. Sprinkle with salt, pepper and cheese. In a bowl, combine the eggs, milk and biscuit mix just until combined. Pour over cheese. Bake at 400 degrees F for 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.

  14. Yes I'm right there with you. Things to always have in the cupboard are rice, pasta, tomato puree, hamburger meat, garlic, onions, veggie oil, cheese, tomatoes, canned vegetables are always handy.Flour, dried beans and eggs too.You can mix and match and make a number of tasty meals with the above ingredients. Cooking is not an exact science so there are no hard fast rules to follow just experiment and have fun at the same time.

I forgot to tell you that stock cubes are good too.

Right now I'm a British girl living in Mexico on next to nothing but have been eating the tastiest meals ever, its just a matter of experimentation!

    Good luck!!!!!
