Fast food is still cheaper than healthy cooking.

When people write " willingness and desire to move forward" it is code for being selfish and greedy at any cost.

The Democrats and Republicans helped those that keep them in power and the proof are the  2 leading candidates that are almost alike.

Outsourcing/offshoring are slowly destroying America's econominc power as a manufacturing nation has more wealth than a service nation.  The US roads and bridges are slowly being sold to foreign companies since there is not enough money.

Whistleblowers from the private and non-private sectors are treated as traitors as they make people aware of corrupt people.

Because unfortunately fast food is much cheaper than healthy food - and if you only have a few dollars and a household of 3 or 4 people to feed, you are going to get the most for your money.....which is NOT fresh fruit and vegetables!

Unfortunately, eating healthy is more expensive.

Also, many of our most economically deprived areas are are rural and require transportation (no brisk walks in the farmers' markets such as in more urban areas).

Hence the reason the fast food industry capitalizes on drive thru windows.

Unfortunately, there will always be poor people in the US and in other countries. No matter if you give them the means to lift themselves up financialy. Bottom line, it comes from our willingness and desire to move forward.
