What makes a person poor?

What is your definition of poor?

What makes a person poor is when they lack one of the 3 essential products of life which are

1)Food/Water

2)Shelter

3)Clothing

any thing else is considerd a luxury.  If you have those things you will live, maybe not like a king but survive for sure. It may sound funny but anything else is extra, things like AC, TV, better tasting foods, Name brand clothing, a Car are all things that inprove the quality of our lives but without them we can live. Poor to some one can be one that dosn' own many matieral things or it can be some one that doesn't have access to the most simplist neccessities of human survial.

poor is someone who can not even afford the basic nessecities of life. You have to be able to see it for yourself to understand it!

i am from pakistan and one of my aunt  backhome is really poor, and she can not buy new clothes/toys to her kids. and they are just kids so when they see that everyone else has those thing so they want those things too. So now we send them gifts every so often.

And they cant even afford food. since the prices keep on rising. And the salaries are too low!

Poverty is brutal!!

It is very sad!

I think you've asked a very interesting question (thanks bytheway).

I know two people, one is on social security taking in $~12-13k/yr, but she manages to pay all her bills and actually has $x,x*x in a savings account and adds to it most months.

The other is a Natl. sales manager who makes $200k/yr. He has a big house in a nice zip code, drives a $70k automobile (leased). He doesn't have a nickel in savings. He owes more on his house than it is worth, and his place has practically no furniture. He has to use a credit card to pay for fast food because he's always strapped for cash. His credit is shot and he's nearly bankrupt.

Of these two, the sales mgr. is the "poor" one, but the retired woman is technically living at the poverty level.

So maybe the definition of poor is just a negative asset to liability ratio.

People who are so caught up in their life that they will not, or cannot help others, is my definition of what makes a person poor.

I have known people who had very little money, but lived well, with a welcoming home full of lively intellectual discussion and acceptance of new ideas.  Their material possessions were humble, but their wealth was in their minds and hearts.

Conversely, I have known people with money who were miserable.  They had no goals other than obtaining the next "fad" item, to impress others in their social set.

Being "poor", in my estimation, is a poverty of spirit.

Someone with little money. Almost always in America the cause of personal life choices by the person (I.E. spending to much money compared to money earned)

There's nothing wrong with being poor as far as I'm concerned if you don't then in turn demand that others supplement your income through government programs etc.

I think it's a state of mind in which there is no hope.  I've seen generations with very little in the american capitalistic way of thinking, but they had riches immeasurable.
