Poor qualifying by McLaren makes things even tougher for Hamilton
The two McLaren men Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button ended the qualifying session today afternoon at 4th and 7th places respectively.
The seventeenth race of the 2010 season, the Korean Grand Prix is scheduled to take place this Sunday at the newly-built Korean International circuit. The qualifying session, in order to determine the grid position of the cars for tomorrow’s race took place
only a little while ago amidst immense fervour and thrill. The first ever qualifying at the Korean soil has further increased the anticipation and thrill of the already very awe-inspiring round.
The two Red Bull men dominated the track once again as Sebastian Vettel secured the pole position for tomorrow’s race while his teammate Mark Webber ended at second place. The Ferrari driver showed great pace on the track as he kept lead at most time of
the qualifying session, only losing at the final moments of the third section but still standing firmly at third place on the grid.
Although Hamilton was fast all through the qualifying, and was seen at the top for long period especially in the Q1 and Q2, yet he lost his supremacy at the final section in Q3. On the other hand, the second team driver, Button was not very prominently aggressive
on the track today. He drove comfortably, without any panic ending timidly at 7th place on the grid.
With the current situation of the Drivers’ Championship, this ending is not very encouraging for the British team. McLaren is currently at the verge of losing their hopes for this year’s title. This particular race at one side provides the team with a hope
to keep their battle going on, while on the other side it is very crucial and could turn to be fatal for the team’s hopes. The last few rounds of the season have been very unlucky for the team and especially for Hamilton. Now if they happen to see another
glimpse of the same hard luck, their fight for the season would be completely over. With this result in the qualifying both the drivers need to be very vigilant and focused. If Webber ends ahead of the two the chances of McLaren would die away.
Currently, Hamilton stands at 4th place in the points’ tally while Button is at 5th with 192 and 189 points respectively.
The only hope that the team has now is the fact that Hamilton is an aggressive and determined fighter and he knows how to pull rabbits out of the hat when required, only if he does not crash. On the other hand, qualifying sessions have never been Button’s
strength and he does much better on final race days.
