Poor start for Rory McIlroy at the Open Championship
It wasn't smooth going at all for US Open champion Rory McIlroy in Round 1 of the Open Championship. The Northern Irishman composed a score of one-over-par after the first eleven holes, and that wasn't the start many were expecting from him. The $7,300,000
event is taking place at par-70 Royal St George’s Golf Club in Kent, England.
McIlroy teed off from the front but ended up missing par-putt on the very first first green. He marched towards the next hole and managed to save par without much hassle. On the following hole, McIlroy tried to hit the par-3 green, but could not attain much
success, as the ball bounced off into the mounds at the back of the putting surface. He tried to wedge the ball out of the long grass, but missed the chance and had to settle for the second bogey of the day.
Leaving rest of the holes at par, McIlroy marched towards the ninth green with, seeming a little lost. However, owing to an accurate tee shot, the player helped himself in earning his first birdie of the tournament.
Currently, McIlroy has completed twelve holes and has six more to play.
Thongchai Jaidee has completed his first round with a score of five-over-par 75. The Thai golfer started his day from the front in early tee timings, but could not make good use of the pleasant weather conditions. He dropped three shots in the front and
four at the back against two birdies. Looking at his stats, one sees him missing the halfway cut on Saturday.
Another terrible scorecard was that off Nathan Green and Jerry Kelly. Green, who hails from Australia, started the day with a birdie, but could not repeat the same action for the next holes, where he bogeyed three holes and double-bogeyed one. He walked
to the back nine and dropped three more shots against two birdies. Meanwhile, Kelly bogeyed four holes and double bogeyed one against a lone birdie to compile a score of 74.
