  1. hoax

  2. Robert is correct that it's a hoax but incorrect about how it's done, leading me once again to wonder about people who don't know what they're talking about yet speak as if they do.

The clever video that caused the stir -- and revealed yet another case of hysteria before investigation -- was done by combining two visual tricks.  Pre-popped popcorn was dropped into the scene from overhead.  (And although they don't say it in the video below, I suspect the video was then played in reverse.)  That leaves only the kernels.  They were digitally removed from the video at the point where they were to look like they popped.

So you have a digitally vanishing kernel followed by a popped kernel appearing to jump up off the table, and voila... a viral video is born (a cheap form of advertising).  No heat, no microwaves, no magic.  Just lots of gullibility.

And although Abraham Glezerman, the CEO of the company doing the advertising seems to think it's all fun, I fail to see how it relates to his product (which I'm not going to help him sell by naming).  It seems to me that his video, while cute, just stimulates the spread of misinformation.  On the plus side it serves to show that you shouldn't believe everything you see on videos, as many people do.  But of course that's what advertising is often about.

  3. Total hoax.  There's always a table..and there's heat under the table.
