What a bunch of bull

If the Pope was ashamed then why didn't he do something about it sooner. Why did he just close his eyes and let the higher ups just move those that commited those godly crimes to another church.

Why I ask!!!

  1. of course you do know that the incidence rate of sexual abuse by catholic priests is far below that of the population as a whole right? otherwise you might look foolish.

    Ooops. too late.

  2. I know.  I find it hard to believe that the church just moved these priests off to other unsuspecting parishes with a slap on the hand or p***s and told them "bad priest, don't do it again".  And then they have the nerve to tell others that they have sinned and should say this novena or whatever so God will forgive them.  Who knows, maybe the knowledge never got that far up the church chain to the Pope.

Another thing that bothers me, and I'm not Catholic by the way, is the wealth in Vatican City and the incredible destitution outside the walls.  Good God, sell some of those golden items you carry around in ceremonies and feed your starving people, who when they do get money, give some to the church.  Ridiculous.

  3. Words are so easy.   Deeds ar another thing.  Let's face it - he is a waste of space.

  4. This is the explanation I have heard on why there was so much clergy abuse in the Catholic Church that they didn't do anything about.  In the old days when people were ashamed to admit they were g*y, if they were Catholic, they became a priest or nun (not that they all were g*y).  It was a good way to avoid explaining why they weren't attracted to the opposite s*x, while making their parents proud at the same time. There were plenty of other g*y people in the clergy for them to associate with.  Then when times changed (about early 70's) and it became ok to be g*y, the Catholic church couldn't get enough people to be priests.  They even had to borrow Episcopal priests to say Mass at some churches because of the lack of priests. So they had to start taking and keeping anybody they could.  When pedophiles were caught they were just moved to another parish before there could be any public flack about it, because priests were in such short supply.  If you are Catholic you have probably noticed how it's a church policy to keep moving the parish priests around to different churches about every 7 yrs.  My husband says it's only about 1% of the clergy who have abused children but it's gotten such press that it seems like more.  I don't know if that is true(?)   I can't picture the Church ever letting priests marry because they would lose a lot of their control over the priests and wouldn't be able to move them around anytime or anywhere they want.  They would have to pay them more so they could support a family, and that won't happen.  Priests take a vow of povery.  They would have to deal with a lot more problems like priests who would want a divorce or have family problems.  As it is now, priests turn their lives over to the Church and they do what they want with them.  Bottom line: money. More money in the Vatican coffers if they have priests who they don't have to pay much.  At least people are more aware of the situation.  I have had Catholics tell me they would never trust their child alone with a priest or being friends with one.  Sad for the good priests who are innocent of wrong-doing because they get suspected anyway.  I personally don't see why a Catholic who that has happened to wouldn't just change to another religion but they so believe the Catholic Church is the one true church that it seems they throw the baby out with the bath water, so to speak, and just lose their religious faith completely. There are so many good faithful believers who are Catholic, and so many good charitable things the church does for all people, but the hierarchy of the Church-pretty corrupt as it's always been.  Just  big business.  That's my opinion.
