Popping ground cover & Garlic smelling flowers

I think they are pansies, but when I do a search for pictures, they don't look at all like pansies. Its looks more like a grass or ground cover. I am assuming "ground cover" means "something that grows close to the ground and might resemble grass if you didn't wear your glasses." When you touch the green furry seed pods, they POP! The seeds inside are white and very tiny. My front yard was once nothing but this stuff. I liked it, but my mother didn't. I think it had white or yellow flowers, but I don't remember. I don't garden much. Every year it would grow back, but I think we finally killed it all off. I'll have to take a look at my back yard one of these days. I know the pomagranete tree is gone. I also have a flower that smells like a mix of onion and garlic.

What are they?

  1. I believe it is wild onions..pull one up by the root and see if it has a bulb on it like green onions..scratch it about 1/4 inch deep and smell it..Do the pods on the end look like this?
