Popping the Big Q in Cuba?

Which do you think would be the best way to transport a ring, Im not to eager to let it out of my sight and if I carry it on me, ill have to put it in one of those trays to be scanned and she'll see it, how do other people get around this.

This leads me to my next question. where is a good idea to store the ring when i get there, hotel safe?(5* all inclusive) the safe in the room would be out of the question as it will be used by both of us, and im a bit conserned about hiding it in my suitcase as it will only have a tiny lock. altho ive never had a problem with items going missing from my rooms before id like to air on the side of caution

Thanks for your response

  1. Get yourself a backpack and put it in there.  That way you don't have to necessarily take it out of the backpack when you go through the metal detector and you won't have to leave your backpack anywhere say at the hotel or down below in the plane with suitcases.

Inside the backpack; add things like suntan lotion, your swimsuit, towel, camera, book, things like that in case the airlines looses your suitcase, you'll have the clothes you're wearing and a swimsuit to go swimming.  (And your girlfriend...won't begin to imagine why you have a backpack!)

If you have a lap top; this is the only item the airlines makes you take out of a backpack, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Why not plan on giving the ring to her on the first night, and then you won't have to worry anymore!? :)

    Hope this helps.

  2. I suggest hiding it in a secret section of a wallet.

  3. Airport personnel are not always that cold....so a suggestion would be to put it in its box and pack it on your carry-on. It's a ring and nothing with any spokes like earring posts...so they won't consider it a threat...when the carry-on goes through the x-ray scanner, they'll see that it's a ring.

The things that stand out to them are items like nail clippers, tweezers and the like.

Let her go ahead of you at check-in...somehow delay your walking 'accidentally' and let another individual go through before you too lol.....you can either discreetly tell someone you have an engagement ring you don't want your fiancee to know about in the carry-on and for someone to be loud about it...or slip a little handwritten note and ask them to keep it down so she doesn't hear....

But really, you won't have any problems. I've taken jewelley on my carry-on and there hasn't been any question.

As well, don't worry about things missing from your room in Cuba. It's very safe there...although, true, I wouldn't leave something like that lying around...and neither in the safe like you said, since she'll be using it too.

But I've left valuables in my suitcase in Cuba and nothing ever happened...

Why don't you just invest in a stronger lock? It's worth it and is not that expensive, especially for an engagement ring....then plan on popping the Big Q early on in your trip.

Have a beautiful time! Congratulations and all the best!

  4. Swallow it and excrete it from your bum.

    Hope it helped

  5. What about putting it in your wallet?

Before passing the X-Ray go to the bathroom and put the ring into your wallet between the coins. After being scanned go to the bathroom again and put it back into its box.

    Good Luck!

Btw Hotels usually have a big safe at the reception. What about that?
