  1. The answer is most certain to be noodles made from rice or bean flour.

There is some dispute over who originally came up with the idea of mixing water and flour to create noodles.

The Arabs claim to have been the first to use dried pasta, as a means of preserving flour during their forays across the desert.

Regardless of their origin, we do know that the Chinese have been feasting on noodles for approximately 2000 years, since the Han dynasty (206 BC - 220 AD). In fact, some experts believe that the Italians got their first taste of pasta when Marco Polo returned home from his long trek across China with a host of exotic food items, including noodles.

    What do make of that?

  2. You wouldn't be referring to pasta, would you?  This is a commonly accepted myth.

  3. It has to be pasta.  Here's the link:

i found that site and it looks like rice cakes are also know as manchuria bus.  below is the process on how to make them and you can read more about it on the link.

Tamping cakes: use glutinous broomcorn, glutinous millet or polished glutinous rice as materials, put them on lattice for heating and changing into glutinous cooked rice, get them out to have some water poured on, put them on the flag stone and then use wooden hammer to tamp them into dough. In the course of cooking, by scattering and churning up the cooked soybean flour, we can roll the dough into various cakes. When being eaten together with sugar and honey, it has a good taste.

    hope i helped!  aloha!
