Popular Dutch songs/artists?

Can someone list names of popular Dutch artists and or songs that are sung in Dutch.

Pop and Rock genres are preferred but anything else is good as long as it's not Rap, Oldies, Techno, Classical or Hard Rock.

I want to start learning Dutch, and music always helps me become more interested in learning a new language :-)

  1. I can't think of any offhand, but there is a compilaton CD out there called 'Pop in je Moerstaal', which means 'pop in your mother's language'.

You could probably get one of the internet mail order companies to send it to you, but not all of them accept credit card payments. One my husband uses is Proxis.com, see how you go with them.

Some Dutch singers: Marco Borsato, Guus Meeuwvis, Andre Hazes, Mathilde Santing, Skik, Normaal, Golden Earring (you mean you didn't know? ;-) ), Lee Towers ...

  2. Bløf, Guus Meeuwis, I.O.S. Gerard Joling, Gordon, Marco Borsato et cetera.

  3. for some more pop stuff

    Juniors

    K-liber

and Ali-B was really good some of his stuff was more or less rap though

  4. gordon, , het goede doel, herman brood, raymond van het groenewoud, ruth jacott, abel,

  5. You can find a lot of bands singing in Dutch at http://www.nederpoparchief.nl/

Some suggestions, that haven't been mentioned yet :

Acda & De Munnik, Bløf, Frank Boeijen, De Dijk, Boudewijn de Groot, Rob de Nijs, Van Dik Hout, Herman van Veen

  6. Clouseau = Dutch singing Belgian pop group that is also very popular in The Netherlands

Will Tura = the most famous Dutch singing Belgian crooner - a bit old fashioned maybe - but his lyrics are very easy to understand which is a big plus nowadays.

If I remember some other names, i'll get back to you.

    Hope this helps.

Edit : I see that Willeke gave you quite a lot of info, even regarding her neighbour Belgium. I have been away far too long to be properly "updated"on the latest trends so..... Thanks WiIlleke for thinking about our Belgian singers too :-))

One more thing : to learn a new language, it is better if you start first with listening to "softer" tuned songs because their lyrics are better pronounced and thus better to understand.

    Enjoy this new language!

Ik wens U veel plezier toe!

  7. Hi there Wild Flower,

Frans Bauer seems to be a good one to learn the Dutch language. At least a Belgium professor who´s teaching Dutch to foreigners thinks so, he is using Frans Bauer´s song to teach, so who are we to question that.

Good luck and hope you´ll be able to practice it overhere.

    Carla

  8. Maybe you can try some childrens songs,. They are very easy.

  9. I like music by quite a few groups that do no longer exist, although some make reunion CDs, among them are Het Goede Doel and DoeMaar.

At this time there is a new lot of Dutch artists:

Jan Smit, Nick en Simon and many more I do not know by name.

And already working a long time, (not my personal favorite):

    Marco Borsato.

Also working for a long time:

Guus Meeuwis and from Belgium Clouseau

And in dialect, Normaal, de Kast and Hessel.

If you just want to listen to a Dutch language channel, to find if you like the music, this website has several:

    http://www.nederland.fm/

100% nl, should be all Dutch made (but not really 100%) and most in Dutch, I think this is a nice one to listen to, but I am not sure they announce the songs.

There is one with a big slash Hollands on it, (I think its name is Gigant.)

    Radio NL.

    Radio Noordzee Nationaal.

I am sure that the Belgium site has several too, but I do not recognize those by name: http://www.belgie.fm/

The site I name in sourch seems to have links to many Dutch artists and groups, some singing in Dutch, others in English and maybe a few in other languages to.

(PS, a lot of the names I gave may be oldies, but as you do not know them yet, they will be new to you.

It is mostly 80's till now.)
