The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the most successful and dominating teams in the National Basketball Association. They have a long illustrious basketball history and are now on the brink of creating another Three-Peat Championship title. The Lakers are
considered by many to be one of the most exciting teams in the NBA.
There have been numerous great players that have been a part of the franchise, but not all have achieved the glory that some of the others have come across. During the course of this article we will be mentioning some of the most popular players who played
for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Nick Van Exel
The mid 1990s saw Nick Van Exel team-up alongside another great in the history of Los Angeles in Eddie Jones, to lead the Lakers into the play-offs once again. With the quickness in his play, he managed to get past any player or any defence on a given night.
His consistent performance and quickness on the court, created many scoring opportunities.
Not only was it thrilling to watch this fantastic player, but the level of consistency made him all the more important for the team. Another one of his unique abilities was to come up with buzzer-beaters which handed the Lakers many clutch wins. He was
the player that the Lakers team went to in the final minutes of a close game.
Nick Van Exel was very young when he began playing for the Los Angeles Lakers and finished his career playing for different teams in the NBA. He was considered as one of the more dominating Lakers player in the 1990s. Though some of the new Lakers fans might
not know him, he definitely occupies a special place in the hearts of many.
Gail Goodrich
Gail Goodrich was more popularly known as Stumpy by his team-mates. Goodrich has served as a role model for many, with the diversity and intellectual play that he displayed during his illustrious career.
The Los Angeles Lakers, with the 6ft 1in of Stumpy managed to achieve a tremendous amount of success in the NBA. Playing at the important guard position, Goodrich was able to come up with consistent performances game-in and game-out. Storming past defenders
and creating some splendid plays for his team-mates, Goodrich had the added ability to score points on a regular basis.
Such was the brilliance in his offensive play that he ended up scoring 19,000 points, which for a guard is an excellent achievement. Though some of the tall men in NBA at the time were slow due to their large stature, Goodrich was not one of them. He was
considered amongst some of the quickest players around, winning the hearts of fans from all around the NBA.
Bob McAdoo
Bob McAdoo was a top class player even when he didn’t join the Los Angeles Lakers. Coming across a lot of individual success both at the college and professional level, he caught the eyes of many.
McAdoo, despite being very successful, managed to reached the peak of his career once he joined hands with the Los Angeles Lakers. McAdoo came off the bench, which was understandable given the fact that some of the Lakers big men like Magic Johnson were
playing at this time. His consistent performance playing important minutes coming off the bench managed to help the Lakers to two Championship titles. He spent the final year of his career with the Philadelphia 76ers but still holds a very special place in
the hearts and minds of many NBA fans of that exciting era.
