  1. Street food in Spain is hard to come across. If you watch Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern, you'll see that when he goes to Mumbai, Taipei, etc. he eats tons of street food. If you watch the Spain episode, you'll see he spends his time eating in indoor cafes and tapas bars. This is because, in Spain, you live to eat, whereas in other places you eat to live. Eating is a social event that is not to be rushed. Popular tapas in Spain include tortilla española y jamón ibérico y patatas bravas. The most popular meal dish in Spain is paella. :)

  2. Pulpo, and calamares on the street????  I don't ever remember noticing such things on the streets.  In bars and as tapas, yes.

Ice cream.  Real, hand scooped stuff, sometimes, but more the prepackaged bars and popsicles made by Nestlé and the like.  And churros.  I remember there being a churro cart near my apartment years ago.  Otherwise, you mostly sit with your food in Spain, get waited on, or stand at the bar, and have tapas or raciones of whatever is there.

Even walking down the street eating a cookie bought in the pastelería is unusual to see.

Oh, yeah, candies and nuts.  Pipas (sunflower seeds).  People walk down the street with sunflower seeds and spit the shells out as they go.  There's a technique to it...you sort of pop them open and suck the seed kernel out, then blow the shell off your lips.  Everyone does it.

  3. Pulpo!!!

which is octopus... although this isnt really "street food", only in the fairs, where you will also find plenty of jacket potatoes with more dressing than potato.

you will find more tapas bars than street food.

    hope this has helped!

  4. There are lots of different kinds of food in Spain (the squid sandwich is only in Madrid) and almost in every city has different "street" foods to choose from: you can have the typical spanish "bocadillos" of potatoe omelette, cured ham, manchego cheese, toasted sunflower seeds (pipas) or the international street food like sandwiches, hot dogs, fries, pitas, kebabs, pizza, wraps, etc. wich, by the way, are the most popular nowadays.

  5. The first thing that comes to my mind is a fried squid sandwich or "bocadillo de calamares". The second thing that comes to mind is ice cream.

Apart from these two things there aren't too many things people EAT in the street in Spain (unless you're asking about fair/festival foods during events). They prefer to eat indoors in bars and restaurants or be seated at the outdoor terraces.

Mmmm... Yum.... I love Spanish food.
