Populist Politics headlines the Dixie Poker Ace field at Fair Grounds Race Course
Thomas M. Amoss trained 4-year-old colt, Populist Politics, would love to start his new campaign with a victory unlike his last year’s campaign, when he heads a field of ten 4-year-old and above males, named for the 31st renewal of the $60,000 Dixie Poker Ace Stakes at Fair Grounds race course, over a distance of 1 mile on turf on 7 January, 2012.
Klaravich Stables’ Populist Politics could have ended his 2011 campaign with a flurry, after winning the $60,000 Mr. Sulu Stakes on Thanksgiving Day, but failing to convert his last start of the year 2011, when he failed to match strides with the rampant Star Guitar, who went on to win the $150,000 Louisiana Champions Day Classic at Fair Grounds race course on 10 December, 2011.
On the cusp of his sophomore season, Populist Politics showed his liking for the Fair Grounds' dirt course when he landed the $109,000 Louisiana Futurity at about six furlongs, right after breaking his maiden at the same venue over the same race course and distance.
The Louisiana bred son of Don’t Get Mad, out of mare Cedar Summer by Souvenir Copy, Populist Politics finished second to winner, Man of Strife, in the Gentilly Stakes at Fair Grounds race course.
It was for the first time Populist Politics got stretched out in distance from 7 furlongs to 1 1/16 miles, and it was the first time he was test over the turf course, but responded well to the change.
After four consecutive starts on dirt, 2 each at Louisiana Downs and Fair Grounds race course, Populist Politics will run over turf.
The turf battle-tested 4-year-old colt headlines the occasion as 9 other will look to take him down.
He has been installed as the 5 to 2 favourite, and will be ridden by veteran jockey, Jesse Campbell, for the nine time trainer champion at Fair Grounds, Tom Amoss.
Albert Stall Jr. trained 6-year-old horse, Kissimmee Kyle, is capable of giving Populist Politics a tough competition.
He is exiting a second place finish in the LA Champions Day Turf at Fair Grounds race course on 10 December, 2011, to winner, String King.
The LA Champions Day Turf's winner and runner up, both possess the ability to give Populist Politics a run for his money in the Dixie Poker Ace Stakes.
