Question:

Porcelain Tile but Looks like Brick - What do you think?

I seena display floor representing herringbone pattern brick made of terra cotta brick colored porcelain tile rectangles. I loved it but.. Would it look desireable to others? What theme would go with that? It is not mc donaldsish, its more antique and cobblestone reminiscent. Would it be dated because I remember brick fake linoleum around 30 years ago?

  1. In general, fake anything is less desirable than the real thing. Unless you have to touch it to tell it's not real brick, I'd choose something else.

It could just be me, but I've long had a "thing" about products (floors, wall coverings, counter tops, etc.) trying to look like something they are not. Go for the real thing, or find something in your price range that doesn't pretend to be something else.

  2. Terra cotta is a color that has been around for decades and is here to stay,  The herring bone design sounds a little trendy.  What you dont want is your expensive floor to look outdated or tacky in 5 years,   If I showed you some glossy glazed tiles from 30 years ago, on peoples walls and floors, you would know what I mean. Most brick or rectangle-shaped tiles are staggered,  just like bricks on a house,  where the brick on top is halfway on top the brick below it.[like a brick pattern]
