Porcelain Tiles on stairs.

Question

I want to put porcelain tiles on my stairs. They have carpet on them right now. My question is, after I take the carpet off can I put the tiles right on the wood underneath or do I have to put down cement board first?

don't , they are way to slippery, accidents waiting to happen!

My question is slip and fall.I could think of better places for tile than stairs.But then again I'm only a contractor,not my wallet.There are better choices out there.
