I would like a do-it yourself way to cover my old concrete porch floor which never did take paint very well. What are some suggestions?

  1. As suggested there are several products specific to concrete, and not knowing at all what you used in the past, we can't even assume why the concrete isn't holding the paint well.

At this point since you know the level of any degradation to the surface, you might want to take off as much of the exisiting finish as possible. You should probably expect to clean the surface well.

Certainly a porch, endures as much abuse as any other surface, and if open to the elements, the problem is multiplied.

Epoxies and garage floor finishes are available that hold up quite well when allowed to dry, set, cure properly.

You could also Tile the floor.

A few minor details about the porch, condition of the concrete, the existing finish, etc. would help us.

  2. They make several products that you can coat the floor with.  You can either go to a flooring outfit or HD or Lowes and in the paint section or flooring department they can show you the various types for your needs.  some of them are as simple as rolling it on like paint, while others are more involved with various steps used for clean airplane hangers.  You will have to check them out for your budget and needs.
