Question:

Pork loin roast in a slow cooker (advice on an unconventional way to cook)?

I would like to cook my marinated pork loin in my slow cooker. I do NOT want to cook it in liquid like you are supposed to. Do you think if I wrap the loin in some aluminum foil and cook it in the slow cooker that way it will work to keep it moist?

I would normally use my oven to cook the loin this way, but it will be in use all day for other things.

  1. Crock pots are not meant to be used dry.  I wouldn't risk ruining either or both of the pot or the roast.  I cook my pork loin in vegetable juice in the crock pot.  Comes out great every time.

  2. You'll have to use a little bit of liquid or else you will burn the crockpot up.

  3. I would at least but a small can of beef broth in there or something. You want to have some kind of liquid in the crock pot when cooking.

  4. I am thinking the cooker would overheat without at least some amount of liquid in there.  If it overheats then you are apt to have a roast that smells and most likely tastes as if it had burned.

The addition of the liquid to the pot is not just for ensuring a moist roast in my opinion and without a fail proof backup plan I'd be loathe to attempt it.

  5. I just don't see why you would want to wrap it in aluminum foil.  When you could put it in a crock pot.  Add a  a couple cans of beef stock or a couple cans of chicken bra or chicken stock.  And it would come out tender and moist.
