Pornanong Phatlum happy with 2012 performance
When Thai Pornanong Phatlum started her 2012 season on the Ladies European Tour (LET) and Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA), only a few had thought she would be able to pull off
a victory.
But Phatlum was quick to realise that she was far more capable of snatching a triumph than most of her critics thought. The Thai star won the Hero Women’s Indian Open—an LET event—shutting
her opponents up.
The Hero Women’s Indian Open was the scene of a relentless battle, but Phatlum tightened her grip on the match from the very start. She shot a 65 and 66 in the second and third round, carding
an overall score of 203.
Although she could record only one top-ten finish on the LPGA Tour—a victory—there were many tournaments that saw her produce a much more refined game. It was 2012 HSBC Brazil Cup saw her
clinch a victory.
The HSBC Brazil Cup is an unofficial LPGA tournament, but Phatlum’s performance was amazing in every sense as she outperformed big names in the field.
Phatlum recently spoke to the LPGA Tour, describing her 2012 season as “amazing”. She said that she faced tough times in some of the tournaments, but her overall performance was quite satisfactory.
A key factor that highlights big improvement in Phatlum’s game is the number of tournaments she took part in the 2012 season.
The young participated in more tournaments in the recently concluded year than she did in 2011, but it does not seem like she is coming off hectic season.
She has been working hard on her short game, which has helped her become a strong putter lately. But she pointed out that her “driving” is among the strongest skills she possesses right now.
Associated with golf since she was just 9 years old, Phatlum has morphed into a seasoned golfer. More importantly, she has seen her reputation grow since she joined the LPGA Tour in 2009.
The Ladies Asian Golf Tour can give a glimpse of how the 23-year-old star has been performing through the years. Phatlum has notched up five victories on the Tour, with the 2011 Hitachi Ladies
Classic being the latest success.
