Porntip Buranaprasertsuk overpowers Nozomi Okuhara in Women’s Singles quarter-final at Thailand Open
Thailand’s Porntip Buranaprasertsuk remained lucky as she narrowly defeated Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara in Women’s Singles quarter-final at the Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold 2012 on Friday, June 8, in Bangkok.
Porntip, who has been positioned at number three in Women’s Singles main draw of the tournament, had to struggled really hard to chuck out Nozomi in a thrilling three-set contest.
The higher ranked Porntip found a worst start as she easily lost the opening game. However, the support of huge home crowd helped the Thai lady to lift up her level of play and she managed to win the following games to advance into the semi-final of the event.
On the other hand, Nozomi did a superb job in the opening set but failed to maintain her control over the pace of rallies in the following games and eventually lost to her higher ranked local opponent in three games with a respectable difference on the board.
In the first game, it was the Japanese shuttler who showed her impressive class and managed to put up thrilling show of attacking badminton. She was on a different level in the first half and managed to take a stunning lead on the board.
After the break, Porntip tried to play at her best but failed to create gaps in her rival’s court and eventually lost the set with a 13-21 score on the board.
In the following set, both ladies played impressive badminton in opening half of the set and remained toe-to-toe on the score board until the break.
After the interval, Porntip took over the control and dictated the pace of rallies by taking the bird early. She managed to take the second game with a four-point margin of 21-17.
In the deciding game, the local shuttler continued her positive run in the game and took a reasonable lead on the score board until the mid-game interval.
She remained on track after the break and cheered her fans by ending up the set with a reasonable margin of 21-17.
Porntip emerged as the winner in this interesting three-set contest with a 13-21, 21-17 and 21-17 score on the board.
