Port Mayaca, Cinque Terre to face each other in Sunday finals
The Cinque Terre polo team on Friday beat Piaget by 11-10 and has now got a berth in the Sunday finals against Port Mayaca. The final of the Pedro Morrison Memorial Cup was held on Sunday, October 24th at the Grand Champions Polo Club ground.
The first chukker of the semi final ended with tie up results at the score of 2-2 with the goals of Marc Ganzi and Alessandro Bazzoni from the Cinque Terre side and a goal from Kris Kampsen of the Piaget squad. Piaget also received a goal by handicap in
the first chukker.
The Cinque Terre team hit three more goals in the second chukker with two off Marc Ganzi and one by another hitter named Bazzoni. But the pair of goals from Juan Badolia and the single hit by Kampsen from the Piaget side kept it all even with 5-5 at the
end of the chukker.
Cinque Terre reached to leading position by 6-5 with the first goal of Lucas in the third chukker of the game, however the lead lasted for a short time as an opponent player by the name of Kampsen, scored the fourth goal of the day and leveled the score
at 6-6 by the end of the first half of the match.
Piaget remained scoreless in the first chukker of the second half against the three goals of the Cinque Terre, as the score was 9-6 at the end of the chukker. Marc Ganzi flexing his muscles in the fourth chukker managed to score two hits against the Piaget
while his teammate Nic Roldan scored his first goal of the game to give them a lead of three goals.
Bazzoni scored the 10th goal of the game, from the Cinque Terre side in the fifth cukker with the score leading at 10-6. The chukker ended with the penalty shot of Kampsen adding one goal for his team as the score reached 10-7.
The first goal of the last chukker was scored by Melissa Ganzi, who took the ball to the goal posts reducing the lead of Cinque Terre. Cinque Terre’s player Roldan scored his second goal of the match by putting the team ahead of 11-8. The consecutive goals
of Kampsen and Gene Goldstein could not save Piaget from the defeat. Cinque Terre celebrated victory with the score at 11-10.
Kampsen scored six goals from the Piaget side while other teammates including Goldstein, Melissa Ganzi and Badiola hit one goal each. One handicap goal was also in the credit of Piaget’s team. The top scorer from the Cinque Terre side was Marc Ganzi with
five goals. Three goals were set by Bazzoni followed by the two goals of Roldan. Lucas Lalor scored a single goal for the team.
Earlier, in the second semifinal of the Pedro Morrison Memorial Cup, Port Mayaca defeated Elangani Ranch with 9 goals against 7 hits.
From the Port Mayaca side, Stevie Orthwein hit the only goal of the first chukker against Elangani Ranch in the opening seven minutes of action. Port Mayaca with an attacking strategy, scored five goals in the first half of the game.
Stevie Orthwein and Esteban Scott of Port Mayaca hit single goals each in the second chukker of the first half while Elangani Ranch’s two goals by Hector Galindo made the score 3-2. The duo teams scored one goal each in the third chukker leading the score
to 5-4 with a small difference.
The second penalty shot of the game by Orthwein added a goal for his team in the fourth chukker. Leo Mandelbaum of Elangani scored his first goal of the game while the captain of the Elangani Ranch, Brian Street also hit the only goal of the fourth chukker.
Two goals were hit by Mandelbaum in the fifth chukker of the game, leading the Port Mayaca with three goals and the score of 9-6. The 6th goal from the Elangani Ranch side was scored by Joey Casey.
The game concluded with the win of Port Mayaca at the score of 9-7 with the final goal by the captain of Elangani Ranch. Port Mayaca won the game and reached the final of the Pedro Memorial Cup Championship.
The finals trophy taking match will be between two splendid teams Port Mayaca and Cinque Terre at the Grand Champions Polo Club on coming Sunday.
