Port Láirge - Can anyone tell me what the name means?

I've also seen it spelt Phort Láirge - what's the story?

And what's the correct pronunciation?

And what's your favourite cheese?

  1. Port Lairge = Bank or landing place at the side of the hill

    Pronounced Port Lauragaa

    Otherwise known as Waterford City

    Other wise known as Vadrefiord    - A danish name that has the word Fjord in it

    Favorite Cheese - Kilmeaden Cheese (Used to be made in Waterford)  Still very nice though

    Nothing to do with Larger I'm afraid but Guinness do have a Brewery in Waterford Port!
