Portable Hard Disk in Carry-On Bag

Question

Can I carry a portable hard disk in my carry on bag and the pen drives with me in my carry-on bag on an international flight? I have heard they make us switch on devices, but how can I connect the drives when I am not carrying any computer? And do hard disks count as a piece of baggage or can I place with other items in my carry on bag and it would be included as 1 bag?

Also, is it safe to pass through metal detectors and get such disks and credit cards scanned with the XRAYs?

Yes u can always carry your gadgets along with u in ur carry bag.... but it is always good to carry gadgets along with u and must be prevented  from metal detector (X-RAYS)

You can put them in your carry on.  No problem.  They will  check them physically at security, but you don't have to turn them on.
