Question:

Portable power supply for mobile repeater?

I'm trying to get everything together for my mobile repeater setup. I have the RX and TX radios as well as the duplexer and antenna. My last thing is the power supply. I don't want to hook it up to my car battery because I have an automatic and I will be leaving this thing alone for 20 hours max. I would like to know if there is anything out there that is portable (can fit in my jeep) that will power a mobile repeater setup in my car, at 25-50Watts for at least 20 hours before needing to be recharged. Any USEFUL help would be greatly appreciated.

  1. About your only choice is some good sized batteries.  You can bring some extra car batteries and connect them to the repeater in parallel to increase the capacity.  We used to connect some cat batteries when we wanted to get serious about staying power.  You'd be surprised how long 6 Cat D batteries can run a repeater.  I don't think you want to try lugging batteries of that size around, but a couple of deep cycle marine batteries should do the job.
