Portfolio for theatre design major?

If one wants to go to college for theatre design, what exactly has to be in your portfolio? I know you have to have one, but can it include shows that you've done crew for, because I don't really think I'll have the opportunity to design anything for theatre before college?

You need to include designs and photos of shows that you have either designed or constructed.

You can also have a section of conceptual designs for show that you would like to design in the future.
