Portfolio on Google Finance?

Uhmm What exactly is a portfolio? I thought it was just a record of where you've invested but on finance.google.com they allow you to choose Shares, their price, buy/sell status, date, commission and Notes. If I decide to hit Buy in any company it will only be a record of what ive bought and what price and not actually a real buy right...

So can someone please clarify what a portfolio is.

Thanks for reading my question (Rather stupid question). Please give an answer thank you.

  2. No you don't actually buy.... how would they charge you for it if you haven't supplied any money or banking information?

Those sites just allow you to put in your information to keep track of things, so you can see all of your stocks and how much they are up/down in total conveniently all in one place.

  3. Your portfolio is the collection of securities you own.

The more information an automated portfolio tracker has, the more information it can give back to you. If a portfolio tracker knows the purchase date, number of shares, price per share, and commission paid for each of your stocks, it can calculate your long term and short term gains and losses. Without all that data, a tracker can only give you basic information, like whether your stocks have gone up or down.

  4. A portfolio is when you have more than one stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and etc., you are investing in from a company or company's. Hope this help! chosen
