hi, after porting a landline phone with DSL to a VOip service, is it normal to still have a dial tone on the old landline service or am i just suppost to have the DSL signal? Now the landline dialtone works as well as dialing but also the # was ported and can be used on the VOip service as well. Is this normal for a dry loop connection for internet only?Thanx?

  1. DSL has nothing to do with dialtone.  If you still have dialtone then the phone company hasn't completed the disconnect of your phone service.

You won't hear anything on "dry loop dsl" line if you hook a phone to it (well maybe a buzz or something, but no usable dialtone or anything).

Your telco probably has changed the routing for your phone number (so it rings on your voip connection), but hasn't removed the setup out of your local switch.  These are two seperate steps and are probably done by two different groups at your telco (telephone company).

  2. The tone will be there regardless.

    Yes it is normal

How else would you know if it was connected.
