Portland Oregon? What do you think?

Question

My husband and I will be moving, the latest location on the list is Portland, Oregon So for anyone who, lives, visits or has ever been there, what did do think? Any info is helpful.

I was raised in Portland and often go back to see my family there. It's a beautiful city and there is a lot to do there, a lot to see, but it's also very expensive and many of the areas in Portland have become unsafe.

If you like big cities and plenty of rain, then you'll probably love Portland! I feel like it's still one of the most beautiful cities in the United States, and most of the people are pretty friendly. And if you like chinese restaurants....There are some great ones there:)

I love Portland but stay out of the NE area its a little scary at times lol. but its a beautiful city, I dont live there I live south in Eugene but visit frequently and the shopping is great, the night life is great and the weather is also amazing for in Oregon we really get to see and feel the diff seasons with warm summers, breezy colorful falls, snowy/rainy winters and bright/rainy springs :). Its a fun city and its so big you'll have to problem finding things to do and meeting new people :).

Great Pacific Northwest weather, great public transportation, affordable...........you can't go wrong.

Gloomy, damp, cloudy - if you need sunshine - this is not the place for you.  1/2 inch of snow paralyzes the community.  Poorly marked roads.

I live in Tigard, OR, which is very near Portland. If you didn't know Portland is known as the second greenest city in the world, or the #1 greenest city in the whole USA. I think that you and your husband will love Portland and the attractions like the rose garden, the Japanese and Chinese cultural gardens, and many more wonderful places to visit!

Portland is amazing! i love it here. I've been here all my life and it's a great place to live. It's filled with tons of parks and fountains, retro and urban shops and boutiques, cute restaurants, and upper scale neighborhoods. It has tons of diversity in cultures, races, religions, income, and much more. it has a great scale of restaurants, houses and people. It is a city, but has a safe, hometown kind of feel. It's big in organics and green energy. it's an awesome place to live. there's always something going on, which is great. Awesome shopping, and the best food I have ever had! Portland is the best!

Portland is one of my all-time favourite cities (and I'm a world traveller). It is very classy and, in my opinion, the cleanest in the world. There is so much to do and loads of places to go! It's in a great location, too. Only an hour from the beach, Mt. Hood (skiiing in winter, hiking/camping in summer), two hours from the Deschutes for whitewater rafting, four hours from Seattle (if for some reason you have to go there), an hour from the capital, and minutes from the suburbs. Downtown is really nice year round. Yes, it rains, but not nearly as much as people complain it does. And not NEARLY what Seattle gets in precipitation. Sometimes it snows, but rarely more than 2 inches which goes away in about a day if not hours. In the summer it stays on average in the mid to upper 80s and often in the 90s or 100s for a couple weeks. We do have four seasons here and they are quite noticeably different. It's a pretty safe environment and community (though North Portland, for all the strides it has made in the last decade is still not a place I'd go unless forced). Housing is pretty high in Portland, which is why many have moved to the 'burbs. All of the surrounding cities (with the possible exception of Milwaukie) are really nice and well cared for. I've lived in the area for the past 8 years and just love it, though I choose the "smaller town" approach and live in the suburb of Wilsonville which is just south of Portland.

Portlanders are also fiercely loyal and have a great sense of individuality. We are super avid recyclers and were keen on being green before that was popular. We boast many parks, green areas, and offer loads of programmes for children. With 5 universities/colleges in the area, there's plenty of nightlife, too.

In "short", it's a really wonderful place to live.

Portland is growing rapidly, lots of people moving here from out of state. NE portland is not scary or a bad part of town. It was about 8 years ago, but thanks to gentrification it is now a very hip part of town. Compared to other large cities Portland is not that expensive. You probably wouldn't like it here, so just forget about moving. Stay where you are, we're full.

(Portlanders can be kind of cranky about newcomers)
