Los Angeles Galaxy keep Portland Timbers winless on the road
Major League Soccer franchise, Portland Timbers, remain winless on the road after their most recent beating at the hands of reigning Western Conference champions, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Los-Angeles-Galaxy-c39818, by a disappointing 3-0 score line. The team had come into this game on
the back of two consecutive home wins against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Dallas-c39095.
Even though the Timbers are amateurs of the league, the chances given to the champions in the run of play were not amateur mistakes rather foolish in nature. In addition to bossing almost 70 percent of the possession, Los Galacticos had more attempts on
goal – seven in response to five from the visitors.
However, John Spencer’s boys did create some chances of their own in the match. The best of the lot came in the second half when Jack Jewsbury’s curling free-kick presented Mamadou Danso with an opportunity. The defender tried his level best to bring down
the deficit but LA goalkeeper, Donovan Ricketts, saved the headed attempt.
Kenny Cooper, then, tested Ricketts twice in quick succession but the 33-year-old thwarted his attempts with assured confidence. The goalkeeper was impressive throughout the game and came out with a clean sheet.
“I thought http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Donovan-Ricketts-c11558 had a great game," said Jewsbury. "We created chances, Kenny had a great chance and we had three or four off set pieces. So obviously the final score when you look at it is disappointing. They definitely had the better run of
play, but he had some big saves.”
The first two goals came from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Beckham-c10432 and Barrett in the
field. The first 10-minute goals destroyed the visitors’ hopes of a victory, as beating the champions was a farfetched notion.
“We probably lost the game in the first 10 minutes, going two-nil down," Spencer said. "I was disappointed that we conceded two goals in quick succession, it’s something that we are going to have to address, obviously. When you go down a goal, you can’t
break down mentality. For the next five, 10 minutes, keep it tight. We’ve done it too many times now.”
The Timbers’ statistics now read 2-3-1 (two wins, three draws and a defeat) and move to 6th place on the table with 7 points, While the Galaxy go top of the charts with 15 points, leapfrogging http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Real-Salt-Lake-c40339 in the process.
