Portland Timbers stun FC Dallas 3-2 at Jeld-Wen Field - Major League Soccer
Celebrations at Jeld-Wen Field as Portland Timbers bag another home game to climb up the Western Conference table. The home team thrashed 2010 Major League Soccer Cup finalists, FC Dallas, by a 3-2 score line. Even though it was a close win for the
hosts, the vocal home support was least bothered about the score line as it was the win that mattered the most.
Skipper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brek-Shea-c8033 pulled back two consolation goals for the visitors.
The Timbers took the lead in the early minutes of the game when Kalif Alhassan found Jewsbury unmarked on the edge of the box. The 30-year-old’s initial effort cannoned off the woodwork but he made no mistakes with his second effort. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kevin-Hartman-c20728
managed to get his hands to the ball but it was not enough as the ball hit the underside of the bar and wounded up in the net.
Twenty-one minutes later, it was Cooper taking advantage of his 6-foot-3 frame. Jewsbury’s perfect corner found Cooper in the box, and the lanky forward made no mistake with his header. With the score line reading 2-0, the teams went into the break.
Timber Joey, the Portland Timbers’ mascot who cuts a slab from a log for every goal scored by the home team, would have cut another slab from the log had it not been for the assistant referee’s raised flag. Steve Purdy crossed the ball into Dallas’
box. It evaded Hartman and found its way to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jorge-Perlaza-c19205. The striker tipped the ball easily into the net but the referee blew the whistle for an offside call.
However, a third goal was always coming and it was Wallace who delivered the third blow. Alhassan was in the thick of action yet again as he found the 22-year-old with a simple finish in the 55th minute of the game.
The third goal shocked http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Dallas-c39095 into life. With just the last 30 minutes left in the game, the visitors tried to mount a heroic fight back. The Ferreira-Shea duo scored two goals in quick succession to give the Dallas based outfit a ray of hope. The
reigning MLS Most Valuable Player was fed with a ball in the 83rd minute and he did not disappoint; Ferreira poked the ball into the net past Jake Gleeson to cut down the home side’s lead. Barely three minutes later, Shea cut down the
deficit to just a single goal to ensure a nervy finale to the game. However, the Portland based outfit played out the final few minutes for a win.
This win takes the Timbers to the fourth spot in the Western Conference table, while the Hoops remain second from bottom in the same league.
